The one who uses the gifts of nature wisely is the happiest. Another method of solar heating and cooling is the use of deciduous trees. When planted to the south of the house the leaves of these trees provide shade in summer keeping the house cool, whereas in winter when they shed their leaves the southern sun falls on the house, warming it.

The Solar Heating and solar lighting during winter may be reduced by 1/2 or 1/3 due to these southern trees – hence it is not suggested to plant the trees in the south in the countries with significant heating costs – but to the west and east of the house. This kind of planting will allow minimum Solar Heating during the summers and effective solar gain in the winters. The greenhouses are built to the south of the house to get maximum Solar Heating, for most part of the day.
